Freelance Journalists - Health Equity Issues
The Colorado Trust, a statewide philanthropic foundation, seeks story pitches and ideas from seasoned freelance journalists interested in covering health equity issues for our website. We believe that all Coloradans live healthier lives when people most impacted by injustices have the power and opportunity to transform our society. Coloradans most impacted by unjust systems have been excluded from decision-making power in their communities for too long, preventing them from living long and healthy lives; the foundation’s grantmaking strategies aim to address these challenges and realities. Our website content focuses on explaining the social, political and economic systems and injustices that have a direct impact on health; we do NOT cover health care, nor individual choices. We pay our established freelance writers $1 per word (up to 2,000 words) per assignment. We also provide (and cover costs for) story photography, and we translate every story into Spanish. Our content is widely promoted and shared on social media and via our email newsletter. The Trust’s editorial content strategy is overseen by two former professional journalists. If these sound like issues you can and want to cover, please first review the tone, style and angle of our recent stories at our online newsroom, and then direct pitches or questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
