The Houston Chronicle seeks a Senior Editor/Local News who can inspire the local reporting and editing staff to produce a smart mix of news and enterprise that serves readers when they want it on the platforms where they insist on it. This editor operates at the crossroads of the newsroom, responsible for seeing the big picture of reporting on the greater Houston region and having the confidence to choose between what seems urgent and what’s important. She/he must help set the newsroom’s clock to a new rhythm, making sure we get an early start to the day and planning for our best work to be ready when our readers are ready for it. He/she is also responsible for planning for major news events and developing themes for our local coverage. He/she will also oversee the Sunday front page, our most important newspaper of the week, with backup from the Senior Editor/Investigations. The Senior Editor/Local News is responsible for developing and coaching the assistant editors and for recruiting within the department. This editor will report to the Managing Editor/Content but will collaborate regularly with the Managing Editor/Audience and the digital team.
