Associate Professor or Professor of the Practicein Journalism and Media Studies
The Journalism Program at Brandeis University invites applications for a full-time, Associate Professor or Professor of the Practice of Journalism and Media Studies, beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year, who will direct the Journalism program and design and teach courses within the program. As contract faculty, professors of the practice are hired, initially, for a term of three years. Pending review, contracts can be renewed for terms of 5-7 years.
The curriculum of the Journalism minor at Brandeis is steeped heavily in the liberal arts. We are looking for someone who has worked as a journalist in the digital age for a minimum of five years; experience as a reporter is mandatory, but we will be delighted to consider people who are currently working as producers or editors as well. A minimum of five years’ teaching experience at the collegiate level is also a requirement. Candidates with Master’s degrees or higher in Journalism or a liberal arts discipline are encouraged to apply.
In lieu of academic research, professors of the practice work within their fields. The successful candidate, therefore, will be expected to contribute consistently to the journalistic landscape in the Boston area or beyond. We are looking particularly for candidates who can augment the digital and multi-media character of our program and expand the program’s popularity with a growing and diverse body of undergraduate students.
