Special Olympics Southern California's (SOSC) vision is to promote acceptance, inclusion, and well-being for people with intellectual disabilities through sports. Through the power of sports, our athletes discover new strengths and abilities, skills, and success - on the playing field and in life. Marketing & Social Media Bloggers are the storytellers of SOSC, be the storyteller we need! KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Produce assigned articles for use by SOSC on media channels, including SOSC.org, WeAreSOSC.org, social media on media releases sent to mainstream media outlets
  • Interview athletes, families, volunteers and other individuals associated with SOSC to tell positive and uplifting features of inclusion, joy, and sport TRAINING & SUPPORT
  • Direct supervision from Coordinator, Communications, with weekly staff support on work
  • Receive basic guide on telling the SOSC story COMMITMENT
  • 10-15 hours/week at the Chapter Office - 1600 Forbes Way, Suite 200, Long Beach CA 90810
  • Preferred commitment of six months or more
  • This can be a virtual volunteer opportunity - work is done in the field or from home QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 18 years of age with valid ID
  • Must have experience in conducting interviews, background in journalism, reporting (onscreen or off) - writing is required, and familiarity with AP style writing
  • Be able to meet deadlines (however, deadlines will be set to work around volunteer schedule)
  • Must have superior customer service skills, excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must complete a volunteer application, required training, and background check
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from worksite and event locations BENEFITS
