We are a seeking a full-time junior Writer to support the Military Health System (MHS) Strategic Communications Division Senior Leader Support Team, in Falls Church, VA.

This position will serve as part of a team of writers within the Senior Leadership Support team. This position is client-facing and requires a high level of skill in liaising with civilian and military leaders within the MHS.

? Support MHS senior leaders in communicating with MHS entities and partners, veteran service organizations, military service organizations, federal agencies, congressional committees and members, and the public.
? Plan, research, and implement communications in support of MHS senior leaders, providing speeches, talking points, newsletters, email messages to staff, briefing documents, policy memos, presentation decks, drafts of editorials, and articles for external publications.
? Remain current on issues impacting the MHS and its constituencies.
? Lead brainstorming sessions with key subject matter experts and communications team leaders and develop key messages for senior leaders using pre-designed templates.
? Coordinate with other functions to support senior leadership needs in areas such as training and coaching, web and social media posts for Health.mil, videography, photography, or graphic design.
? Support the outreach team in identifying high-impact outreach opportunities and preparing for senior leadership participation at external events.

Required Competencies
? Ability to work both independently and in coordination with other writers/editors as required to complete projects and taskers.
? Strong speechwriting capabilities and experience.
? Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook.
? Ability to learn (absorbing the culture-learning about the varied tasks required; ability to offer and accept constructive criticism).
? Ability to understand and anticipate client needs and provide value-added solutions.

? BA and 5 years' experience, or MA and 3 years' experience, in health communications, military communications, or related field.
? Detail oriented with strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
? Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
? Creative teamwork and collaboration with remote staff.

Desirable Experience
? Current knowledge of the U.S. Military Medical and Military Health System operations.
? Prior military health communications experience.
? Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style and plain language conventions.
? Experience in providing Federal contract support.
