JOB DESCRIPTION

The Editor??, Travel, ideates, develops, produces, and publishes daily content to support cadence and audience targets of the Travel desk by managing the approval, assignment, and sequencing of articles. She/he collaborates across teams, including photography editors, social media, distribution and analytics teams to strengthen content and to support the digital editorial calendar. She/he reports to the EIC/Head of Travel to help advance the broader Travel group editorial strategy. She/he supports National Geographic's company-wide goals of growing audiences, engagement, and digital revenue.

The ideal candidate is a strong story scheduler and detail-oriented person. She/he is focused on digital content, can write snappy headlines, top level edit, can write strong articles and grow our coverage in many directions. She/he is a multi-tasker who can manage multiple tasks, build great pages and bring strong ideas to the table. She/he can track content analytics, identify opportunities, and be able to explain these numbers and tactics to the rest of the team. She/he should be a good communicator, someone who speaks up in meetings and is able to represent the travel team in internal stakeholder meetings, with knowledge about the travel team's needs and ability.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor content schedules, deadlines and deliverables. Communicate project status across the group and to other teams. Create and edit high-performing content for multiple platforms. Collaborate with a content-specific team of editors and producers. Ideate, develop, produce, and publish daily content to support cadence and strategy targets.
  • Audience development: work closely with the photo editors, social producers, and video team to make data-informed decisions, grow our communities, strengthen brand loyalty, and maintain consistent voice across platforms.
  • Connect and maintain relationships with digital teams and other key internal stakeholders to ensure overall business goals are achieved through the team's efforts.
  • Monitor industry and competitive landscape and perform other duties as assigned. Provide digital expertise to the Head of Travel and other support as needed.
  • In communication with Head of Travel, support the Travel Desk's editorial content strategy across digital platforms.


Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Expertise gained through at least 4 years of experience building and leading an online franchise, specialized training/experience related to specific franchise areas of responsibility.
  • English language is required.
  • Proficiency in AEM, page production software, Google and Adobe analytics, HTML, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel preferred.
  • Professional writing and editing skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage resources and daily priorities.
  • Team player with diplomatic temperament and ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and consistently deliver quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep familiarity with and appreciation for the Web and a passion for the franchise areas of responsibility.
