HuffPost is a Pulitzer Prize-winning source of breaking news, video, features, and entertainment, as well as a highly engaged global community for opinion and conversation. The site launched its first international edition in May 2011. HuffPost is seeking a passionate, energetic and enthusiastic reporter to cover U.S. politics, with a focus on the 2020 elections. The ideal candidate will be able to cover the full arc of domestic politics and should have deep sources, or the ability to develop them quickly, across the ideological spectrum. You will be writing a mix of daily and enterprise pieces, and we want your stories to be breaking new ground in the national conversation -- think scoops, investigations, explanatory pieces and reporting-driven analyses. We are looking for stories with real impact on people's lives - government malfeasance, hypocrisy in high places, unintended consequences of dumb or corrupt policy. HuffPost creates journalism for ordinary people, not tip-sheets for elites, so this reporter should write clean and arresting copy. HuffPost tells stories in many formats, so you must be comfortable working in visual and aural mediums as well as text, and be excited to collaborate closely with others on complex multimedia projects. You will be joining a growing and diverse newsroom that reaches nearly 170 million people across the globe every month, and many millions more through our social platforms and partner portals like Yahoo and AOL, which together reach over a billion users every month. Qualifications Have 3+ years of experience as a reporter. Politics or policy reporting experience is a must, and campaign experience is a plus Be willing to travel significantly to cover campaign events Be able and eager to generate your own story ideas Be able to juggle shorter on-the-news stories with longer enterprise projects Be eager to both learn from and mentor other reporters Be willing to collaborate with other reporters -- no drama Produce impeccable copy Location in D.C. is preferred but not required.
