?Researches, reports, writes and helps create compelling text and multimedia journalism that continuously serves the Upstate New York communities in Ithaca and Elmira.
?Develops relationships with sources, citizens, experts and others in order to provide unique insight into the impact of decisions, activity and events on readers and communities.
?Makes it a mission to inform and engage readers through immediacy, developing news reporting, enterprise writing watchdog journalism and riveting storytelling.
?Works with the news director, storytelling editor and other local and regional editors to deliver news stories, enterprise projects and storytelling for target audiences, and planning content for mobile devices, including photos, video and infographics.
Duties and Responsibilities
?Creates a deep base of contacts to maintain a flow of news, information and tips from which to create a balanced news report on a particular topic or issue that is of interest to the Ithaca and Elmira communities.
?Creates storytelling that accurately informs, entertains and engages specific audiences and platforms through the use of metrics. Works toward becoming the community's leading voice on a particular topic or issue.
?Delivers key findings in a multitude of forms, including 30-second-read stories, photo galleries, short video and Infographics.
?Pays special attention to the issues and trending topics impacting how the topic or issue plays a role in the audience's lives.
?Builds a deep working knowledge of target audience behavior to ensure accountability content serves the needs of Family Forward ("impact me") or Know the Score ("talking points") audiences.
?Uses advanced knowledge of social media to help shape and promote coverage approaches and build relationships.
?Collaborates with content team to provide all the appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos, videos and graphics). Captures basic photos and video as needed.
Required Qualifications include:
?Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism or equivalent in experience and education, or college degree in a related field.

No direct reports; this is a non-exempt position. Direct peers include other content creators in Binghamton-Ithaca-Elmira operation and journalists in Rochester and New York State team.
