WUSF Public Media is a division of the University Communications and Marketing department, and consists of three Strategic Business Units - WUSF 89.7, Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9, and IntellisMedia. WUSF is a service of the University that provides the community with News, Information and Entertainment programming, jazz and a classical music station that informs and enriches the daily lives of people in the community through broadcast radio and by providing internship experiences for USF students.
The political editor will manage journalists in the WUSF (Tampa) and WMFE (Orlando) newsrooms assigned to cover the issues that matter to voters in Florida. The person in this position will help reporters translate policy and politics to the audience in a way that's valuable in their decision-making about candidates.
By coordinating daily developments and planning in-depth coverage collaboratively with news directors in Tampa and Orlando, the editor will help reporters identify original reporting for both on air and online. The editor is responsible for making sure breaking news is shared on air and online immediately, as well as preparing in-depth enterprise reporting to be published online and used in daily radio magazines, and public affairs shows.
This position is for one year and will oversee not only the March 2020 primaries, but also the November general election and any recounts.
Plan collaborative news and feature coverage of the 2020 election for broadcast and digital platforms; coordinate plans with Tampa and Orlando news directors; share and communicate with Florida Public Media partners; assign, develop and edit original election stories from partner newsrooms. Embed in the WUSF newsroom and the WMFE newsroom.
Find stories that are under-reported or aren't being told by other news organizations; identify and lead audience engagement opportunities in Central and West Central Florida; maintain journalism best practices for editorial integrity, based on NPR and local station standards.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Broadcasting, Communications or a related degree, and five years of experience related to Journalism, Communications and/or Public Broadcasting; or a Master's degree in the fields listed above and two years of experience related to Journalism, Communications and/or Public Broadcasting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; both daily news and enterprise reporting;
- Political reporting or editing experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and team collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of audio and video production.
- Ability to utilize and visualize data journalism for digital audience;
- Experience in digital media, including editing copy, fluency in SEO, social-media and basic analytics.
